they used to be coin-op boothes set in public places. Basically a big box with a curtain. And the typical picture that seems to be taken is a series of goofy faces !!

Elli .. Photo Booth is a application that comes build into the Mac that captures images using the built in iSight Camera :)

Serena and I have photos from one of those booths. It was in Wildwood NJ. One of our very first trips anyplace together.
